GOBA - The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure
GOBA is a vacation on a bicycle, 350 miles of pedaling spread over seven days. The 3,000 cyclists enjoy the challenge of a 50 mile trip each day, seeing Ohio close up, and learning about its people, geography, and history. GOBA is a family oriented ride, and participants range in age from infants to octogenarians. It's like a reunion - long time riders reconnect with each other once a year and renew their friendships. The route changes each year, and the communities that host the riders roll out the red carpet for them. GOBA volunteers design and mark the route, and work with host communities to provide campgrounds. Baggage transportation, portable toilets and showers, shuttle buses, medical accompaniment, and bicycle repair SAG wagons are all part of the mix. The motto is EAT. RIDE. SLEEP. REPEAT. When GOBA came through Fairfield County some years ago, the riders camped at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds and FHTA hosted an ice-cream stop for them in Amanda. Quite a few FHTA members have participated over the years, and always come back with great stories about their adventure. For more information, visit GOBA's website. |
