The Tour de Cause
In the fall of 2009, FHTA members Ron Burris, Dan Peters and Brett Navin met at Lancaster Bicycle, Dan’s new shop on S. Columbus St., to talk about a covered bridge bike tour of Fairfield County. Within minutes, the tour morphed into a fundraiser, a la Pelotonia, and the cause would be to raise proceeds for education, awareness and treatment programs for opiate addicted adults in Fairfield County. The men’s wives, Chris, Carrie and Pat, were invited to join and the ride quickly birthed The Lancaster Cause, a group of 12 friends bent on helping alleviate the scourge of addiction in the area. Every year, more and more Fairfield Countians get involved with the TDC somehow, whether by riding, donating money, cheering riders along the road, or donating food and drinks. After the 4th annual ride in 2013, over $225,000 had been raised for The Recovery Center. FHTA has been involved from the beginning, and FHTA members participate as riders and volunteers, manning the bike trail rest stop at Martens Park. The cause is one that truly fits with FHTA’s ultimate goals – helping the community with healthy, active living choices. Check out tourdecause.org for information and registration, and keep up with them on Facebook. |
